If you love the look of the orient and want to make it a part of your permanent home decor, there are a few simple and cost effective tips to help you achieve your look. Most people who think about Japanese decor think about the colors of white and red. They picture paper lantern wallpaper and accessories to complete the look.

Japanese houses are decorated with natural colors that offer neutral colors, not bold. The overall architecture is simple. The look is kept clutter free so you are not distracted by material things that really do not have a place in the room.

Artwork is also simple but can be paintings of nude. Rice paper is sometimes used in Japanese decor for screen doors framed in bamboo.

Screen Doors

You can purchase a Japanese screen door online or at your local oriental store. Adding a screen door in the bedroom can completely change the look of your room. You can add these doors throughout the entire house if you choose to do so instead of using regular doors to divide the room. Hang simple to bold Japanese art on the wall. Clean the floors and keep them clean without any signs of shoes in the house. Place a waterproof box with a lid outside so that people can take their shoes off and place them in a box while at your home. If you have a foyer, you can have everyone take the shoes off and put them away in the foyer so they can get them on the way out. If you do use rugs on the floor, use modern area rugs that look clean and comfortable. For example, yellow rugs are perfect because they are bright and cheerful while black rugs may also blend in with the Japanese decor too.

Indoor Japanese Garden

The Japanese garden is a must-have for any Japanese home. It is a simple garden that provides serenity and tranquility as it displays beautiful earth colors and the fragrance lingers through the air. This garden can be placed on the back porch or in pots throughout the home. The garden provides so much; physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Foldable Screens

A foldable screen is sometimes used as a barrier between one room and another however, you can use them for other things so you are not tearing down your walls. If you have a large room that is too long or too wide, the foldable screens can be used to section this room off so it doesn’t look so large. You can divide a living room up by placing a screen between a table and chairs and the television. Family can play table games while others can watch a movie.

Fountains

You will need to find a fountain to go in your room. A fountain will not only create a beautiful decor but the sound from the fountain will be very peaceful and relaxing. You can find fountains in many different shapes and sizes.
